Our Transitional Kindergarten Program — A Better Bridge Year

Live Oak’s Transitional Kindergarten program is designed for children who are developmentally ready for more than preschool offers but not quite ready for the full demands of kindergarten. Our TK year follows a Waldorf-inspired rhythm: morning circle, outdoor play, artistic work, story time, and purposeful handwork. Children develop social confidence, fine motor skills, language, and attention — the real building blocks of academic success — through joyful, meaningful activity.

Families from Auburn, Meadow Vista, Grass Valley, Rocklin, and across Placer County choose Live Oak’s TK for its small classes and deeply nurturing approach.

Private TK Near Auburn — Why Families Choose Live Oak Over Public Transitional Kindergarten

California’s public TK program is improving, but class sizes are large and academic expectations are often pushed earlier than development supports. At Live Oak, our private TK gives children what this year is meant to be: a slow, beautiful deepening of childhood before formal schooling begins.

  • Smaller classes than public TK — your child gets genuine individual attention
  • No screen time — learning happens through hands, movement, and relationships
  • Consistent teacher who knows your child deeply across the TK year
  • Strong community of TK families who often continue together through the grades

Is Live Oak TK Right for Your Child?

If your child has a late summer or fall birthday, or if they simply feel young for their age — socially, emotionally, or physically — a TK year at Live Oak may be the single best investment you make in their educational foundation. Children who take this extra year consistently outperform peers who were pushed ahead before they were ready.
