Media Philosophy

Live Oak Waldorf School’s Media Philosophy

Yesterday’s child spent far more time developing through imaginative play, exploring the natural world and building social bonds through face-to-face connections. These real-world experiences are invaluable for the developing human and, unfortunately, are becoming increasingly rare for today's children. The decline of play-based childhood and the rapid adoption of screen-based childhood has disrupted this natural development and gradual maturation to adulthood.

Live Oak Waldorf School offers a more traditional type of connectivity. We value a screen-free experience during the school day, encourage our families to engage in mindful and age-appropriate ways with digital media, foster human connections, and seek to model hands-on, direct experiences with the real world.

We nurture a childhood full of real experiences, connecting children with nature, encouraging imaginative play, fostering true friendships, and building practical skills. Play-based, hands-on experiences help children grow and develop in all aspects of their being. We believe a balanced individual emerges over time by gradually strengthening their inner capacities of willing, feeling, and thinking.
