Kristen and Michael Rice
Huckleberry Preschool Teachers
Kristen Rice and her husband Michael Rice, grew up in the rural Midwest, and were drawn to LOWS because of its 40-acre campus, the opportunity for children to deeply engage with the outdoors, and because of the LOWS commitment to offering a traditional and flexible Waldorf Education during a time when Waldorf schools are under pressure to conform to more main-stream standards. They chose to teach together in the Huckleberry Preschool with Kristen as the Lead Teacher and Michael as her Assistant.
Kristen has been a Waldorf Class Teacher for 25 years and has been teaching as a Lead Teacher in Early Childhood for the past 8 years, the last 5 years with her husband Michael. She received her BA from the University of Michigan, has a Secondary Teaching Certificate, Wilderness Training, and Social Inclusion Certification, and is a Certified Yoga Instructor.
Michael received his BA from UW Madison and is a Waldorf Certified and Remedial Certified Teacher. He has been a Waldorf Class Teacher for 11 years and a Waldorf Remedial Teacher for 14 years. He has been working in Early Childhood with his wife Kristen for the past 5 years.
Kristen and Michael have 4 grown children, all of whom have attended Waldorf Schools from Early Childhood through 12th grade. Both Kristen and Michael are avid hikers, and readers and are on a continual quest for the world’s best burger.
Kristen and Michael joined The Live Oak Waldorf School in 2021.
